The storyboard process
eClips Blog > The storyboard process
The storyboard is one of the most important aspects of your eclips film. Essentially it is the final blueprint before the cameras and technical equipment arrive at your business or property and the filming proper begins.
For us, the storyboard is arguably the most fun aspect of the entire film production process and allows us to get the creative juices really flowing, combining your and our thoughts to create an exact paper template of the final video.
Preparation is the key! What will go in the storyboard starts for us as soon as we turn up at your business for our first informal meeting. We will use this opportunity to have a chat with you about what you want from your film, what your key market is, how you would describe your business, what music is required, voiceover, acting talent and which areas of your business you particularly want to focus on.
For our part, we will use our video expertise to keep a close eye on where we feel your business highlights lie, where the best video angles can be found, what lighting requirements are needed, what extra equipment we may need to bring in, and much more. Armed with our trusty Sony HD camera, this is where we love to have a tour around your business and start to shoot some rough footage to give us a better idea in the pre-production edit suite of where the best places to film will be.
Still in our edit suite (we do emerge for food and water occasionally) we will begin to write the storyboard. As mentioned earlier, we love this part - after years working for the UK's leading travel trade publication we are extremely adept at portraying your business through words and combining this writing with the right video angles. Obviously, having a voiceover on your film is entirely up to you and your business attributes but we find that a voiceover is often the most powerful way of marketing your business online through film.
We will line up the best shots from your business, with the right words and soundtrack, collate them all together and put the exact shots down on paper before we visit to do the filming. This has got to be an extremely detailed part of the process as we know more than many how precious your time is so the more detailed our film schedule (wide angle, close up, pan shot etc etc) the more precise the filming on the day.
And of course, as our client, you will have the complete control over the final contents of the storyboard before we come along for filming. We're not afraid to admit that, while we will have the expertise to suggest filming ideas, scripting, voiceover, and soundtrack, it is unlikely we will know the inner workings of your business better than you, and this is where our communication skills come into their own, to keep you informed of our process throughout and allowing you to make changes at any stage of the process as you so wish. Only when you're happy with the storyboard are we!
We hope that goes some way to explaining the storyboard process of making an eclips film. Stay tuned and we'll we'll keep posting the inner workings of eclips film production process over the coming months.
Until next time
Matt
