Hello, and welcome to eclips film's blog spot from where we will post our latest news, views and video clips - in fact anything and everything to do with making videos, internet video and its power to help transform your business.

Our entries will generally be a light hearted look through words, pictures and video at the industry but will also serve a second purpose to help you understand us more as a company. We want our customers to see us as we are, to understand our motives and to learn more about the people behind the scenes.

In our first entry, Matt takes times out to take a very quick look at the future of the internet and the importance of video.

It's simple - in today's multimedia, Web 2.0 world, if you want to maintain a profitable business, you have to boost your online presence and boost it in the right directions.

We’re well into the current era of the Web, commonly referred to as Web 2.0. Features of this phase include search, social networks, online media  such as video (this is where we come in), music and  syndication (RSS).

Currently the Web is still mostly accessed via a PC, but we’re starting to see more access from mobile devices such as the iPhone and through television sets on games consoles such as the Nintendo Wii, XBox Live 360 and Playstation 3.

In fact, our lives in general are getting more digital. In a survey by Datamonitor/Dimension Data, research reveals that 100% of the end-users surveyed use e-mail, followed by fixed-line telephones (80%), mobile telephones (76%) and instant messaging (66%)- and this is where the power of video can truly come into effect.

For some, video is still seen as kind of sideshow on the internet, a medium for watching the occasional YouTube video before getting back to real work.

But very fast this view is being diluted by the fact that internet video is becoming absolutely mainstream. Just look at the staggering success of the BBC iPlayer format to see how internet users - especially the young, experience-hungry demographic - are turning increasingly to the internet to view television.

Much of the catalyst behind the birth of eclips film is because we believe the biggest impact of the Web in 10 years time won’t necessarily be via a computer screen but from a single multimedia unit in every home.

Switch it on to view last night's serial drama or football match, at the touch of a button listen to the latest chart hits and, importantly for business, use its built in Web browser to surf the internet, research buying decisions, do your weekly shopping, check out your next holiday.

This is where having a video on your own Website will really make you stand out from the crowd. Video is one of the most effective methods to connect with a wider audience.

It is a proven and powerful way to change people's attitudes, entertain, educate and motivate as well as condensing a large amount of information into an easy to understand form.

As well as the internet, a video for your business can be used in many different ways such as promotional films, training videos, Viral marketing and campaigns.

In December 2008, computer giant Cisco Systems stated its intention to put its stamp on the next stage of the Web’s development with a concept it calls the "MediaNet".

The idea is to meld together a range of technologies and services that will make the Web far better at handling video and other rich media. MediaNet, "will make video the natural language of the Internet," says Cisco senior vice president of emerging technologies Marthin De Beer. "We think this will be as big or bigger than the World Wide Web. This is Web 3.0 we’re talking about here." eclips film is in the driving seat as far as this Cisco vision is concerned and we'd love you to join us for the ride.

Thanks for reading and please, if you have any comments on the above - good, bad or indifferent - feel free to post them.
